April Wrap Up 2018

This month was an overwhelming month just because so much happened! I got to see Hamilton at the West End, read a tonne of awesome books, saw the much anticipated Infinity War and Westworld Season 2 started!!! My heart is so inflated, I can even think straight- I'm fangirling way too much.

BOOKS
The Prophecy (Titan #4)- Jennifer L. Armentrout
* * * * *
This was an extremely hard book to start- not because I dislike the series but because I love it too much. From the first book in the Covenant series, to the end of this spin-off series, I've loved every minute with these characters. I've spent years and years with these beautiful characters and it was difficult to go into this book knowing it was the end. It wasn't just that I feared some major characters deaths but... I couldn't deal with this being the last content I'd ever get with these characters and this world that means so much to me.

Ghost Town (Morganville Vampires #9)- Rachel Caine (Re-read)
* * * * *
Then I went straight back into completing this series because I love these books and needed to finish them.

Bite Club (Morganville Vampires #10)- Rachel Caine (Re-read)
* * * *
No surprise this book came next.

Last Breath (Morganville Vampires #11)- Rachel Caine (Re-read)
* * * * *
And, of course, I couldn't forget this one.

Black Dawn (Morganville Vampires #12)- Rachel Caine (Re-read)
* * * *
Still going...

Bitter Blood (Morganville Vampires #13)- Rachel Caine (Re-read)
* * * *
Surprise, surprise...

Fall of Night (Morganville Vampires #14)- Rachel Caine (Re-read)
* * * * *
Nearly there...

Daylighters (Morganville Vampires #15)- Rachel Caine (Re-read)
* * * * *
Finally! I always get tearful at the end of this book because it's such a great journey, the characters grow so much and it's bittersweet to have to leave the world.

Six of Crows- Leigh Bardugo (Book of the Month)
Granted, I didn't finish it this month but I started it and that's what counts. Six of Crows was mine and Kaitlin's Book of the Month for April and so far, I'm enjoying it. I haven't read too much but this series has always had such great hype and I'm excited to finish it off.

TV and MOVIES
Riverdale Season 1
* * * * *
While I watched the majority of it last month, I finished season 1 of Riverdale in April and, boy was it addictive!!! I'd describe Riverdale as a teen murder mystery and the whole thing is so clever! The murderer could literally be anyone and you end up questioning every single character throughout the series.

Karate Kid
* * * *
I'd seen the remake with Jaden Smith but I'd never seen the original and I have to say, I totally preferred it. This original movie was a lot funnier and I cared about the characters so much more than in the remake. This is such a classic movie so, if you haven't watched it, you need to rectify that pronto.

Ghostbusters
*
This was another classic movie that I watched but.... this just completely fell flat for me. The characters were one dimensional and unlikable at best, the plot was too weird and unexplained and the jokes were awkward and cringey. Honestly, I can't remember a single one of the characters names and I can't quite understand why this movie has so much hype. It's not even because the graphics are somewhat dismal (that's a given when you watch an old movie) but the whole characters and plot weren't developed or likeable. Such a disappointment for me.

Ready Player One
* * *
I went to the cinema to see Ready Player One with Kaitlin (Liber Amoris) this month and I quite enjoyed it! I'm not going to say it was the most faithful adaptation (it wasn't) but it was still a lot of fun and very entertaining to watch. There were a few minor plot issues in my opinion but the characters were great and I'd give it a solid three star rating.

Captain America: The First Avenger (Re-watch)
* * * *
I sat down with my family to re-watch The First Avenger because my parents hadn't seen it and me and my brother are major Marvel fans so... we forced it upon them. They seemed to like this one a lot more than Guardians of the Galaxy, at least. Cap may be far from my favourite avenger but I still love his movies and especially loved seeing Peggy again!

Love, Simon
* * *
This was the second movie I went to see at the cinema this month and I went with my mum this time. I thought Love, Simon was really well done. It was super faithful to the book but that also meant that I didn't love love love it because I didn't love love love the book.... but at least it was accurate to the story. Sure, they changed a couple of details to make it reflect better on screen but they kept the same heart to the book which I liked.

Westworld Season 1 (Re-watch)
* * * * *
Because Westworld Season 2 started this month, I decided to re-watch the first season again which was awesome because it's one of the best series in the world!! This time, I managed to get my brother to watch it as well which made the re-watch all the more fun because I got to laugh at all his bizarre theories and predictions. Westworld is such an intricate and mind-boggling show and I can't wait to delve into season 2.

Hamilton at the West End
* * * * * * * * * * * * * *
I know this isn't TV or movie but I just had to mention that I got to see Hamilton at the West End this month!! It was phenomenal live and the London cast were absolutely stunning with their performance. It was a flawless experience and has made this show so much closer to my heart. All I want to do is go back and watch it live again and again and again.
I went to see Hamilton!!!

The Book Thief
* * * *
I read this book quite a while ago and, while it wasn't my favourite, I still enjoyed it. This movie was so surprisingly faithful that it reminded me of everything that happened- including tiny scenes that I'd completely forgotten about! The casting was perfect and, quite controversially, I think I'll say that I preferred the movie to the book! That certainly doesn't happen often!

Avengers: Infinity War
* * * * *
And finally, I went to the cinemas with my brother to see Infinity War! We went to see it on the first day it came out and... I was gobsmacked. I won't spoil anything but it was the most stunning film I've ever seen and my emotions were all over the place. It was such an ambitious movie and I physically can't wait for the final instalment to come out next year!! Through the whole movie, my only thoughts were: Holy. Shrimp. (Okay, I didn't think those words exactly but I'm paraphrasing because I was swearing a whole lot).

Thanks for reading! Feel free to comment your thoughts- what stories did you devour this month? Stay amazing!

  1. I grew up with the original Karate Kid, so I have never been able to make myself watch the Chan/Smith version. I'm glad you preferred it. And I just saw Infinity War today! I'm going to blog about it in a bit (but I totally agree - Holy. Shrimp.) - Shayna
