Westworld 1x08 'Trace Decay' TV TALK

This show is beautifully addictive, compellingly genius and utterly brilliant (was that enough adjectives for you?). This show never ceases to amaze me and there is so much to think about and theorise! Every single detail is part of a bigger game and it's captivating to watch every episode. As we get nearer to the season finale, the reveals are getting bigger and better and the plot thickens so much more!

SPOILERS AHEAD- SPOILERS AHEAD- SPOILERS AHEAD- SPOILERS AHEAD- SPOILERS AHEAD
Starting with dear Dolores, her and William finally find the church town that Dolores has been dreaming about. One issue that I have with their storyline is that... they're not really doing anything. They've gone off to find 'home' and now that they've found where Dolores meant, they're turning back? They don't seem to know what they're doing or why.

Nevertheless, Dolores began to have many flashbacks whilst she was there and is honestly going a bit crazy. William seems to anchor her but she's even struggling to tell if he's real or fake now. His solution is to get her back to Sweetwater in the hopes that being home will help her calm down. But..... things are never that easy for characters. They get intercepted by the one and only Logan which I'm going to enjoy so much. As Logan put it.... they're fucked.
Meanwhile with the Man in Black, he bumped into that sexy hot host that introduced William to Westworld- although now she's actually a part of the park. This would support the two timeline theory and that MiB is William but... they're many plot holes with this theory.
Teddy and MiB kill one of Wyatt's men, protecting the sexy hot host. I like that we heard a bit of MiB's backstory- it was very necessary and can, again, maybe support the theory that he's William. He had a wife and daughter but his wife killed herself and he decided to return to Westworld to see what kind of man he is again. He immediately went to kill a woman and her daughter (Maeve!!) and found he felt nothing- no guilt whatsoever. I love that we finally got a reason as to why he attacked Maeve. He says how Maeve appeared to be alive in that moment and this event revealed the maze to him. Interesting.
The sexy blonde host turns on them- actually affiliated with Wyatt- and now, these characters too, are screwed. (That was the general take from this episode).
Over to Maeve, we have her adjusting to the new Clementine (it's so trippy!) and she orders the boys to recode her and take out the detonation bomb in her spine if she ever left the premises. Asshat is convinced that they can wipe her instead but, she's already ten steps ahead of him. She quite epically slits his throat and then orders Felix to save him in case she needs him. Resourceful woman indeed. Her new plan is to get an army so that she can escape out of Westworld.
She goes back to Westworld to keep up appearances but, as she has a flashback, she accidentally kills New Clementine and is on the run. The tech team have finally noticed that something's up with her and have gone to take her out. They better not wipe her! All the progress we've made with her character cannot be for nothing! I hope Felix and Asshat are the ones to go get her.
Over to the tech team, we had Charlotte begin another way of smuggling data out the park seeing as though Theresa failed. It's so obvious that Charlotte's suspicious of Theresa's 'accidental' death... Ford's on a slippery slope.
She enlists Lee to help her put all the data in one of the old, decommissioned hosts- that just happens to be Abernathy!
Finally we had scheming with Ford and Bernard. As Theresa's schemes to smuggle data are revealed and the malfunction with Clementine is revealed to be a hoax, Bernard is reinstated. Ford gets Bernard to cover their tracks with the whole Theresa thing and then erases Bernard's memory of her and what happened. We briefly see a flashback where it's assumed that Bernard also killed Else under Ford's instruction!! We didn't see her actually die- just in a choke hold- so I'm praying she's still alive because I really liked her!
Stubbs is the only one suspicious of Bernard because he knew exactly what Bernard's and Theresa's intimate relationship was but, when asking a memory-wiped Bernard, Bernard knows nothing of the sort.... I'm hoping Stubbs can really begin to figure things out from that. Who else is a host under Ford's control???

Thanks for reading! Feel free to comment your thoughts- any theories? Stay amazing!
Chloe
