This book did not disappoint which is hardly surprising because Jennifer L. Armentrout has never written a bad book in my opinion. This was a brilliant finale to the trilogy and was wholly satisfying from start to finish.
This trilogy is full of action, epic romance, supernatural fun and sassy characters (which JLA specialises in). As always, her characters are lovable, her prose is effortlessly hilarious and her stories all-consuming. I honestly can't say a bad word about Jennifer L. Armentrout's books because she's a writing goddess.
The most interesting thing about this book is that the fans had a huge say on the outcome. Jennifer L. Armentrout held an online vote to decide which guy the protagonist ended up with. She's writes a love triangle so well and, as an aspiring writer myself, I can't imagine giving up such creative control. (It also helps that my ship won the vote :) )

The first thing I loved about this book was how quickly the love triangle was resolved. I was expecting it to stretch throughout the whole book but it was settled in the first 100 pages. In most books, it drags out through the entire book and it makes you dislike the protagonist because they're leading two guys on and frustratingly can't make a decision. Layla was definitely not a coward and knew she had to make a tough a decision but didn't sit around and mope. She listened to her heart and did what was fair for all of them. (Though, I wouldn't be this enthusiastic if she'd picked Zayne).
Roth was the right person to pick and I agree with her thinking of them as the past and the future. It was nice to actually get to see the aftermath of the decision instead of the choice being right at the end and never getting to see the cutsie moments of the couple together. And, let's face it, all of my favourite scenes of this book were Layla and Roth cute moments.
I wanna take a moment to appreciate Cayman because I think he's such an underrated character! For a demon, he's so caring and funny and entertaining. I think he and Layla became good friends and he was a really reliable person to have around. Honestly, not many people would allow themselves to get beat up again and again by Roth just to let Layla get some time alone in Hell. What a stand up guy.
I have to talk about the Familiars because I absolutely love this concept and wish I could have a Familiar of my own. I'd predicted that we'd see Thumper somewhen in this book but I wasn't expecting to see him within the first 20 pages! It was so cool to finally see him- especially when he was super small and cute but I will say that he wasn't as bad-ass as I was expecting. I know, I know, I have high expectations if a giant dragon that burns and eats Alphas doesn't impress me but... I just thought we'd have a more epic battle with him involved.
As always, I loved Bambi and it was cute to think of Roth and Layla as her parents. But it was sad to see her leave. I'd been trying to figure out what the witches wanted in return for saving Layla's life and it had me on edge for so long. But, it was a lovely opportunity to see Roth's loyalty to Cayman. It was nice to see Roth really express such a devastating emotion- he always feels more human and relatable when he shows such a vulnerable display of emotion.
Layla got her own Familiar- Robin the fox-which was cute but I don't feel like we had enough time to really bond with him. He only came off of her once or twice and she didn't have the relationship she had with Bambi. I certainly didn't care about him as much as I do Bambi, Thumper and the kittens.
It was cool how they're real people in Hell, though. But that knowledge would seriously change my decisions on what gender I wanted on me.
We also got to meet Lilith which was another thing that I had predicted would happen (though, that was pretty obvious). I was a little disappointed with the first meeting of Lilith and Layla because it felt way too quick and rushed. It was only a page or two interaction and then it was over. I thought it'd have more emotional weight.
Throughout the book, we have some great fight sequences and, in every one, I was grinning like an idiot because Layla and Roth are the dream team. The two of them fighting together was so much fun because they were just winking, grinning and flirting as they did and it was all sorts of adorable and bad-ass.
They find out that Layla is linked to the Lilin and, as soon as that's revealed, it's quite obvious that Layla was going to kill herself. But I wasn't too worried that she wouldn't come back somehow because I've read enough of Jennifer L. Armentrout's books to know that, nine time out of ten, there's a happy ending. I love that Layla is immortal now so that she and Roth can spend an eternity together!!
I also like the idea of Zayne and Stacey together. It was implied that they'd gotten closer through this book and I think they suit. They've both been through a lot, lost a lot of people, and they deserve each other. I'm also glad that Zayne didn't get with Danika because it would've felt like him settling and Danika deserves more than that.
Overall, I loved this trilogy but I was pretty much expecting that because JLA has never disappointed me once.
Thanks for reading! Feel free to comment your thoughts. Stay amazing!
Chloe
