May Book Haul 2017

Warning: You may very well get jealous of all the amazing books featured. Reader- envy definitively likely.
Though I didn't read much at all this month, I still bought some very pretty books. It's exam time, okay? I need to treat myself.... and my book shelf during this stressful time.

A Court of Wings and Ruin- Sarah J. Maas
Of course this was the first book I got. I received it through the YA Chronicles subscription box that I'd ordered (unboxing link here) along with some stunning pieces of merch. This is the third and final book in the ACOTAR trilogy- though another story arc will appear in the same world with other characters in a spin-off trilogy. A Court of Thorns and Roses is a fae retelling of Beauty and the Beast, A Court of Mist and Fury follows a storyline of the Hades and Persephone and A Court of Wings and Ruin supposedly has traces of Snow White which makes me really excited... and scared.

The Dead List- Jennifer L. Armentrout
The physical edition of this came out this month and, while I read this months ago when it was free on Wattpad, I needed to get a physical copy of this. JLA is my favourite author and all her books are stunning. The Dead List is a YA thriller/romance that has you questioning everything and everyone! I made the mistake of reading this at night, surrounded by darkness and it sure scared the crap out of me. I cant wait to give it a re-read.

Rarity from the Hollow- Robert Eggleton
I was lucky enough to be sent a physical of this novel in return for an honest review. I'm super intrigued with this book: it's an adult literary science fiction novel filled with comedy, tragedy and satire. It's said to be very backwards and mysterious whilst also being entirely original and interesting. It's apparently a children's story for adults which sounds very exciting. All I really know about it is that a backwards girl saves the Universe and that's all I really want to know. I can't wait to delve into this story and must thank Robert Eggleton and Dog Horn Publishing massively for getting into contact with me and sending me a physical ARC.

Once Upon a Dream- Liz Braswell
I bought this because it was cheap and looked cool! This is the second in a series of twisted fairy tales but I'm pretty sure they can be read independently as they're about different Disney tales. This one follows the story of Sleeping Beauty but, as Malificent bonded her soul into the curse to make Aurora sleep, she lives in and controls Aurora's dreams. When the Prince kisses Aurora, he too falls asleep and the only way for Aurora to wake up is for her to find a way to take back control of her own dreams. I love this concept because it's saying that a woman doesn't need a man to save her and can take control of her life by herself. I'm super excited to read this.

As Old As Time- Liz Braswell
Again,. as it was cheap and there, I bought the third book in this twisted tale series. This one follows the story of Beauty and the Beast. However, in this story, when Belle touches the rose, memories of her mother start to flood her mind. She finds out that her mum was actually the beautiful enchantress that cursed the beast. Belle and the beast go on to try and unravel the dark mystery of their families.

The Undrowned Child- Michelle Lovric
This was a very random book that I received this month. I'm currently in Year 11 at school so am soon leaving (ahh!!) and so is my English teacher as well. As she wasn't taking any of her books home with her, she so nicely gave me one because she thought that I'd appreciate it more than other people would (our generation doesn't exactly praise reading unfortunately). So, this book was technically a gift and recommended
by an English teacher so I have raising expectations on it though I don't really know what it's about.

Thanks for reading! Feel free to comment your thoughts- what books did you get in May? Stay amazing!
Chloe
