Writing Diary #12- My First Nanowrimo

Let's be Nanowrimo buddies!!!

I'm doing Nanowrimo this year... I sure know how to make my life even busier.
In case you've never heard of Nanowrimo, it stands for National Novel Writing Month. The challenge for this month is to start and complete an entire 50,000 word first draft within the month. That's nearly 2000 words every single day for an entire month. I do normally write every day but my average is usually between 500-1000 words so this task is really going to stretch me.

Also, it will give me time away and distance from the current novel I'm writing.... but not too much distance. The story I'm planning to write for Nanowrimo is going to be a prequel novella for one of my current character's backstories. It's what I originally wanted to base the book on and, when I completely changed the angle of the story, this plot got pushed to the side- it's just someone's backstory now. But that doesn't mean I don't want to write it!
I won't give too much away (because that spoils the surprise of my actual book) but the protagonist in this novella is actually the antagonist of my current full-length novel. I love villain backstories and showing how they're just misunderstood... and this novella will help me delve super deep into their past and how they end up where they do in my novel.

I'm also lucky enough to have a local writing group that will help keep me motivated through this month. A local author sets up lots of writing activities and I've recently just finished a Short Story Writing Course where I've learnt a lot about how to write a complete narrative (surprise, surprise, my short story was another backstory of a current character). She has so kindly set up a sort of support group for people doing Nanowrimo; mainly writing and planning sessions where many people can come and draw inspiration from the other writers there (along with a well needed cup of tea). Many of the people going have previously done the course with me so I'll have many familiar faces and writers helping me along with this first year which is super exciting.

So, as a lot of my time will be spent spewing words onto my laptop just to keep up with word counts, my blog may be a little neglected this month. But (this may be good news or bad news), I have four seasons worth of Game of Thrones reviews that have been written and not yet posted so.... you'll be seeing a lot of that. I've also pre-written a lot of posts that I can just click and post. I'm prepared!!

If you want to be my Nanowrimo buddy, follow this link and comment your Nano name so I can be your buddy back! My username is the same as this blog so it's pretty easy to find!

Thanks for reading! Feel free to comment your thoughts- are you going to be braving Nanowrimo this year? Stay amazing!

    1. I manage to do everything because I'm constantly on my computer and am severely lacking in the social department. And tea sounds great! xxx
